Troy’s family moved to Anchorage in 1973 and has considered it home since! A year after graduating from high school, he married his high school sweetheart Kari and after completing a field of study at the University of Wyoming, they returned to their “home” where Kari taught in the Anchorage School District as a special education teacher and Troy began a work-study, apprenticeship program in the field of HVAC metal fabrication and service. For the next 22 years, he worked at a local mechanical contracting company that he acquired and eventually sold in 2016.
Troy became a Christian at the age of nineteen, about 6 months after he and Kari were married; she would leave her Bible open on the kitchen table with sticky notes that said, “Troy, read this verse”. The Lord used those Sticky-Note Verses to open then eyes of a blind man! From that time, the Lord has graciously revealed more of Himself through the study of His Word, godly friendships and mentors, the testing of faith in business and children!
Troy and Kari have three sons (Trent, Luke and Cole) that all started at Grace Christian School in the 7th grade. Their decision to enroll the boys at Grace was heavily influenced by the testimony of a number of graduating seniors at the time, who clearly demonstrated the value of a Christ-centered education and teacher/mentors who loved the Lord, prayed for the kids and taught the subject material in the context of Biblical Truth. As the Bible says in 1 John 4:19, “We love because he first loved us”, the love of God shown through the ministry of Grace Christian School, has compelled both Troy and Kari to return that kindness through coaching, teaching and serving.
