Tell us a little bit about yourself, your family and your teaching history:
I have three children that attend Grace and have since kindergarten. This year I have a senior, an 8th grader and a 2nd grader. I was married October 2015 and my husband is the Chief of the Air Defense Squadron. I have two stepsons as well. I taught 1st grade for ASD from the fall of 1992 until the end of the school year in 2001. I took time to stay home with my kids. I started at Grace in 2013 and worked in Instructional Support for two years. I went back to the classroom in 2015.
What year did you start at Grace Christian School?
Why do you choose to teach at Grace Christian School?
My three children have attended since Kindergarten and I have helped in many capacities for 12 years. I love Grace’s philosophy and the work that they do to help our children be leaders for Christ.
Tell us about a meaningful moment with a student:
A new 6th grade student came to Grace my first year back and was really struggling to fit in. I was giving him an assessment and he became frustrated and started to cry. We found a quiet room and I just listened as he talked about his home life and his school life. Then we prayed together. From that day on I saw more smiles from him.
Tell us about a time when you have been able to witness the integrity driven culture here at GCS:
I see it every day with the interactions between teachers and students. I watch our students be kind, compassionate and even protective. 8th graders helping 1st graders. High school students being polite and respectful to grown ups. And I also witness the amazing work that our students do on mission trips.
What is your favorite unit/topic/project to teach and why?
1st grade because I love how they are like sponges and I love to teach them how to read.
What do you hope students have learned from being a part of your classroom?
I hope they have learned to never give up. Always keep trying and have compassion and integrity. I want them to learn the fruits of the spirit and live by them.
How do you motivate your students to become active learners in your classroom?
By doing many different types of learning. I try to provide learning opportunities to meet each type of learner.
