Part of the mission of Grace Christian School is to build leaders who will be a transforming influence in the world, and building leaders is at the heart of our Student Council. Through opportunities to plan, execute and evaluate a variety of social and community building activites, student leaders develop skills of step-by-step planning, budgeting, and follow-through. These activites include school-wide pancake breakfasts, intramural sports tournaments, and all of the Homecoming festivities.
Although we enjoy the social events, one of the most important things we do is to develop the theme for each new school year, lending a spiritual focus to all of our activities. Students work alongside teachers, advisers, and administrators to prayerfully evaluate the spiritual tenor of the student body, and then seek the Lord’s for the spiritual direction of the upcoming year, in which we aspire to grow in specific areas of weakness. This theme, which is derived from a passage of scripture, is incorporated into the High School retreat at the outset of the year, and then in chapels throughout the year as speakers continue to teach through extended passages that address the theme. Throughout the years, student leaders have looked back on this spiritual aspect of the Student Council as the most significant of their responsibilities.
